Darko Milowich (born 30 November 1958) is a Luxembourgish violinist and conductor of Serbian origin, recognized for his international concert performances, academic contributions, and leadership of the chamber ensemble "d'arco."

Early Life and Education

Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Milowich began violin studies at age five under Ljubomir Nikolic. He later attended the University of Arts in Belgrade, earning a bachelor's degree under Prof. Leonija Marjanovic and a master's degree under Prof. Aleksandar Pavlovic. His advanced training included studies with Elena Tschugaewa in Moscow, Robert Koelman in Zurich, and conductors Yuri Simonov and Yuri Ahronovich.

Career

Milowich has performed extensively across Europe and beyond, with notable appearances in Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Israel, and the United Kingdom. His London debut at Wigmore Hall received critical acclaim. Since relocating to Luxembourg in 1986, he has been a member of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra and the European Soloists, while also serving as the founder and concertmaster of Ensemble "d'arco."[1]

Academic and Teaching Contributions

Milowich has held a teaching position at the Royal Conservatory of Mons and led summer masterclasses in Austria, Greece, Croatia, and Italy. He earned a PhD from the University of Luxembourg, with his dissertation exploring the works of Italian composer Leone Sinigaglia.[2]

Instruments

From 1984 to 1986, Milowich performed on an Andrea Guarneri violin. Since 2003, he has played "Il Soldato," a 1791 Giuseppe Guadagnini violin from the Salomon Collection.

In recognition of his contributions to Luxembourgish culture, Milowich was named Chevalier de l’Ordre du Grand Chêne.[4]

Personal Life

Milowich is a certified CMAS scuba diving instructor (since 2007) and has practiced hot yoga since 2022.
