Looks like Tomozaki had some self reflection to do this episode. It's felt like a character study of his personality this time and he even had to make an important choice about who to take on dates.

As awkward as some moments got this episode, I think it was an important episode to examine how much Tomozaki has developed this season.

Tomozaki puts himself down too much.

Minami, confessing her love for Tomozaki, it left Tomozaki puzzled. Tomozaki belittled himself, saying, Someone like him, to which Mizusawa replied, when will he stop with that self-deprecation? Reflecting on Minami's words and Mizusawa's admonition, Tomozaki realized he had simply been pretending not to notice. Meanwhile, Hinami pressed Tomozaki, asking whom he wanted to date. Without understanding what it meant to be in a relationship, Tomozaki mentioned the names of the two girls he was interested in.

When it comes to bros this season, Mizusawa's stepping up big time. He's been giving Tomozaki advice and even went full-on Hinami, setting him up to hang with Minami at lunch. Personally, I'm Team Kikuchi all the way, but this competition is adding some serious drama. And did you notice how things are moving slower now? The whole episode was just one day, and they even skipped the ED.

As for Tomozaki, he's on a quest to figure out what love really means, all to make his choice between Kikuchi and Minami.

I've been waiting for this all week, let's go.

Daaamn, Mizusawa is good, getting all the answers without Tomozaki even saying anything.
Don't really like how Hinami is forcing him to do all this stuff, but these tasks do make things really interesting lol
Absolutely love the moments with Mimimi and Tomozaki acting bashful around each other.
Fuuka's story was quite cool actually. Seems interesting.
Mimimi was amazing this episode. I wanted to see her more aargh.
This arc is getting so good. I can totally see myself giving this 9/10 by the end of the season.

Just like Mimimi to be so direct though. Kikuchi's entry certainly did spook her. Mizusawa's lecture was harsh yes but he was right. After coming so far its annoying to see Tomo fall back into his safe zone every time he feels lost. Still kudos to Tomo for being able to reflect on this and provide the names. The talk between Fuka and Tomo though was pretty insightful. The tag team of Aoi and Mizusawa as they pressured Tomo and Mimimi though was hillarious.

It's not the character who can't compete, it's the player!

Despite the series of buffs Tomozaki has received over the course of these last few patches, as well as a significant tournament victory with Mimimi's confession, he still refuses to see himself as anything other than bottom tier. Luckily, Mizusawa's here to knock some sense into him and Aoi's here to give him a new set of missions. After years of deliberation, Tomozaki finally settles on Mimimi and Fuuka as his two girls. Mimimi is possibly backpedaling on her confession, the rest of the friend group is onto something happening between her and Tomozaki, and Fuuka is still making revisions on her play.

Up to this point, best girl Mimimi has always taken the lead in her conversations with Tomozaki, but now she's just as clueless on what to say as he is. Mizusawa gave some excellent advice in both this episode and the last. His character is really growing on me. There are a lot of moving parts to this arc. Looking forward to the payoff.

Mimimi so adorable. She looked cute blushing. Need more. So Tomozaki told Mizusawa and not Aoi, she's onto them though. Even Tama can see something's going on. It'd be fun to see her reaction. Not that interested in the play or story written by Kikuchi. Btw it's nice that Tomozaki doesn't want to make the confess a task.

Man, I've largely tried to avoid being "that guy" that compares everything to the source material, but this week's episode was such a letdown for me I've gotta vent a bit. While plenty was cut out in the first 8 episodes too, I was able to accept it as being necessary to provide ample time for the last 5 episodes as we reach the climax of the season. As an example, the LN originally had 7 photo quests to complete, but the anime smartly cut out the 2 least important ones that don't impact the story. They're just cute little interactions between Tomozaki and other characters. I was fine with that, and a lot of the other cuts made on Tomozaki's internal monologue, for the sake of time, but what was it all for if you keep doing it in the bigger moments in the series?

It even feels like the author was subtly hinting at this issue himself by retweeting someone talking about it not being possible to express the complex emotions of the characters, it's just an anime adaptation. As if the discussion between Kikuchi and Tomozaki in the library wasn't a big enough meta commentary about how the emotional depth of characters can get lost in translation!

This episode felt like it had a checklist of events to mark off to complete, and once they did that, they ran out of time to add any more emotional depth to the story.

The conversation with Mizusawa, and Tomozaki's self-reflection afterwards, are major turning points in Tomozaki's character for understanding the weakness he still has. They didn't hit even a quarter as hard as they did in the LN and it's not like they're super long or anything either. It would have been much better if they just took the internal monologue at the end in his room from the LN and had the VA speak it in the anime with an extra couple of minutes used to cover it.

The interactions between Tomozaki and Mimimi were also way too short (although I did like the nice callback with the ramen Mimimi had for lunch they added in). She just confessed to him! Let us see more of them being awkward together! Let's hear more of Tomozaki's thoughts as they bumble along at school! Let's see more reactions from their classmates as they witness all of this! ARGH!!!

The episode didn't suck or anything, it just could have easily been much better if there was more time available to explore what is happening in greater detail. It should have been a 10/10 but ended up being a 5/10 for me because of how brutal the anime industry can be.

If you liked it as an anime only viewer and are curious as to why this LN reader is complaining so much, the chapters animated this week were the last 1 of volume 6 and the first 1 of volume 7.

Dude, I was eager to wait for this episode after what happened last time. It appears as if Mimimi is trying to let what happened slide but can't face the problem head on. Meanwhile Aoi is seizing the situation and making a really hard to complete romantic roadmap considering the time limit. Whether Tomozaki pulls it off or not I seriously doubt things will end up well for the blue haried girl, since they never do.

Side note: that speech Misuzawa gave about masochism may be the most valuable thing to take out from this episode depending on how the season goes on.

I’m really happy how the story is going and personally I would want him to choose Mimimi but I’m not opposed to him choosing Fuuka either. But he better not do a 180 on what he said and choose Hinami instead

Uffff
This episode was not as peak as the previous one but it was certainly quite entertaining, it managed to maintain the "realism" of the situation between Fumiya and Mimimi, as well as of course giving a little more depth to Fuka, nice.

I liked that Fumiya's personality didn't change from one moment to the next, he still sees himself as a miserable piece of shit who is worthless, yet he still tries to move forward despite knowing that he has to make a very important decision.

There are only 4 episodes left, one month of broadcasts, chale.

Mimimi or Kikuchi, i actually don't care.. Thing is I feel Aoi is getting more distant and distant. She only now has a quest-giver role. I wonder if she is totally out of the picture now?
I remember in first season there were hints about Tomozaki and Aoi, as it could also be a possibility.
Perhaps it's between Kikuchi and Mimimi so that other characters would have more relevance?

But somehow I wish that there was more hints if there could still be a potential Aoi and Tomozaki "love" interest as well.
Ughh i feel like reading the novel but i don't know how far the story is with this.

Mimimi is the correct answer dude don’t complicate it lol. Fuuka is cute and all, but it just doesn’t flow naturally with her like things between Tomozaki and Mimimi. But of course given anime logic he’ll probably go the opposite direction..

Good on Misuzawa for helping Tomozaki realise he’s not as bottom tier as he thinks.

Mizusawa was a real one in this episode for telling Tomozaki to stop putting himself down all the time.

Soon, Tomozaki will have to choose who he'll date, and I don't mind either option; they're both great.

I liked this episode. Once again, Mizusawa proves himself to be the MVP of the season.
Fumiya and Mimimi are so cute, and they have a pretty good chemistry. But we all know how anime work, he will probably end up with Fuuka.
Four episodes is a lot, I wonder what happens next

Indeed she did, and Tomozaki even imagined her on the rooftop with other girls. And I think he had a conversation with Mizusawa about Aoi which was cut off and I'm not sure if it was ever elaborated. However, ever since the cultural festival planning Aoi has basically been out of picture and only been giving quests to Tomozaki. No emotions from her side whatsoever either.

With the newfound confession also comes new tasks from Hinami, and all of them are tough ones all involving pursuing both Kikuchi and Mimimi, and I’m ngl I’m still leaning towards team Mimimi because the aftermath of the confession has been pretty great so far with her being flustered around Tomozaki and being unable to keep it under wraps after it was Mimimi herself that tried backpedalling the confession lol. And of course Mizusawa hit the nail on the coffin with his guesses as to who Tomozaki was dealing with, it’s like he’s also been watching the show lol.

And we also got stuff on Kikuchi’s side of things mostly having to do with the story for the upcoming play, and within it was where Tomozaki attempted one of his tasks, and it was quite smooth how he got the topic in there without it seeming too weird lol. And Kikuchi’s answer wasn’t quite as good as I hoped but it was an interesting conversation, now I’m just wondering if Kikuchi will also make a move like Mimimi did or if it will be Tomozaki to do it first, still holding out hope for Mimimi tho lol.

I love the cringe moments! :D I just love them! the parts with Minami! Fuuka is nice girl, but totally not my type, but well she could match better with Fumiya, then again as she wants more true love.. he shouldn't meddle with her heart right now.. maybe in 2-3 seasons if they really get to love each other..

so take MIMIMI!!!! I mean I would!

We can say while it looks like Tomozaki being forced to go through this stuff, it may actually be helpful in his life later on, especially the interpersonal 'choice' he has to make sooner or later, like this one regarding romance. Whether or not regrets will result from his choice, he will need to make choices, else, he simply will not move on.
I guess the main issue with Mimimi is that her sudden accidental confession made an 'awkward barrier' so it would be now a clunky path for them to the get closer, compared to when they were just casually interacting like before - it would've been a more natural way of getting closer and developing their relationship further (and steadily gravitating to each other) like what is happening with Kikuchi as they discuss the play together and being enlightened together. But then again, Mimimi is still a good catch if ever (I can't help but root for the Blue-haired girl of this story) because Kikuch is pretty much using his 'admiration' for Tomozaki's effort in stepping up in the world as her shield and using it to deny her growing feelings for him.

💯 What makes the LNs so good is that we hear Fumiya's inner monologue and anguish over what to do, and his logic in feeling he's still bottom tier. I feel the anime cut out 90% of this. It's a shame this arc wasn't two cours; it had the potential to be one of the best romances, ever.

I get why they are ending with volume 7, but they had to cut so much of the emotional depth to make it happen that maybe splitting it into 2 cours and ending the first cour with Mimimi's confession would of been better... I don't know.

I also just noticed after looking at the volume again that I think they actually squeezed in 3 chapters in this episode and cut out Tomozaki's entire conversation with Nakamura about dating. The ending in the 2nd chapter matches the ending of the episode. If true that means there are 7 chapters left for 4 episodes. Lord have mercy I hope they are finally going to slow down soon.

I'm praying the studio at least sticks the landing with the climax this season so they get enough interest/sales to do a 3rd season. If we get a 3rd season they better do just 2 volumes and end at 9... ending at 10 isn't it, and after seeing how much they had to cut to fit 4 volumes into 13 episodes I don't want to see any attempt to do it again.

Choose Mimimi so you don't have a headache, okay Kikuchi is sweet too, but she's too shy and passive, you'll get stuck when you both have the same personality. Well, it could be the other way around, but I would definitely choose Mimimi, who is fun and always cheerful. Even though Aoi is beautiful, she is too dominant and they become masters and slaves rather than lovers.

@PAVELsama Lots of places you can buy the light novel. Amazon, Yen Press, Barnes and Noble, Google books, etc. Season 2 will end with volume 7. Volume 8 would be the start of a potential 3rd season.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

@PAVELsama It is up to 11 volumes, but the 11th came out last month and hasn't been translated to English yet. Don't know any sites offhand, just Google it.

Mimimi scenes all gold here. Fuka scenes all boring.

I am so sad assuming that Mimimi will lose.

please author, make the right choice, just don't let him have Aoi, she's so annoying, Mimimi 100% of my votes
@pansz goodbye to peaceful life and relationship if he end up with Aoi.

Gosh this is hard. Him and Mimimi together is cute but so is him and Fuuka. Can’t choose at all 😫
@MrTranAnh yes! both pairs are preferable! Tomozaki x Mimimi is not bad and Tomozaki x Fuuka is not bad EITHER as well!
4/5.

Tomozaki wanting to go to Aoi for love advice, but yet can't tell Mizusawa about him and Minami, the latter can really tell. But still, Tomozaki being confused about Minami giving him the looks, Mizusawa offers him valuable advice to change his bottom-tier lifestyle, though he's free to make the changes himself. When it comes to Aoi though, asking the same question, he instead is routed back to the same problem, which is how she keeps the check on him. And decided, between Minami and Fuka, to complete his dating event map between the two. Aoi's 3 tasks are considered subpar for the course for the typical person, but this is Tomozaki we are talking about, and things get awkward between the two once their eyes meet.

For Fuka, using her story as a stepping stone to ask her of her dating criteria, both in the general and individual sense, and Fuka's likings delve deep into her love for literature, to form one complete circle where the two share one bond together where no one else can take their place. And towards Minami, Mizusawa takes a different approach for lunch, having himself, Aoi and Tama join them to force Tomozaki to finish his task on the spot...that ended up nowhere. For now, Fuka's story is coming along, with the characters left to bring out their charms, twaking them back to their original setting.

Tomozaki has a lot to think about: the play, the relatonship he wants, it's a juggling act.
