Tommy and Josy would most likely NOT have the same last name. Their parents were only recently married, and they are step siblings. Unless Josy's father officially adopted Tommy, not likely in a college-aged man, he would have kept his original last name. Don't forget, Josy's parents were only divorced right before Josy and Maya hooked up, maybe a year before the game or only a couple of months (depending on if the summer interlude was a year before, or the same summer as the game starts).

Not necessarily. I have a friend who married a Japanese woman (he's a standard-issue American Euromutt). Their daughter spent some time living in Japan and she said she was often mistaken for a native Japanese, and many people were surpised she was a hafu. She definitely has some Asian features and nobody would mistake her for someone without some Asian heritage.
Sure, you can chalk the rest of it up to just lack of knowledge and using dumb placeholder names for whatever reason but writing pages on a wiki site using the name you gave your MC to refer to the MC in general does take first place in silliness, especially when the MC has quite a few commonly accepted default first names and a default last name.
