Editors’ Review
PureSync works with external hard drives, network volumes, and even digital cameras. With this application, you can automate dull tasks such as periodically backing up your files to keep them safe or importing your photos from your digital camera whenever you plug it into your computer.
Pros
Synchronization wizard: Using PureSync's synchronization wizard, you can easily set up a sync between two folders, with the possibility of setting advanced filters and schedules along the way. While the wizard is indeed bursting with options, in most cases you can create a working synchronization without having to fiddle with every single feature.
Powerful scheduling features: One of the app's greatest strengths is being able to automate synchronizations. You can choose among myriad scheduling rules. In our tests, we successfully created two synchronizations: one that worked when the PC was idle for more than 1 second and one that synced every minute regardless of PC load and activity.
Compression/encryption: A really nifty option is the ability to automatically compress the second folder's files in order to save space. You may also opt to encrypt the second folder with a predefined password.
Cons
Unintuitive workflow: When you first start using the app, we recommend you stick to the wizard and apply as few options as possible because there is a definite learning curve due to all the options that are available. Once you're comfortable, you can start branching out and experimenting.
Bottom Line
If you have an external hard drive or a folder on your local network where you like to keep backup copies of your stuff, an app like PureSync is exactly what you need. The best thing about it is that after the initial setup you can completely automate the backup process.
